Service Description

Join our Certified Chess instructor as he teaches you different levels of chess. Don't let his age fool you because the Queens Gambit doesn't have anything on this 16 year old instructor. LEVEL 1 Foundations of Chess is a rigorous course that requires considerable discipline, time, and dedication. Please do not take this if you are not willing to put in your time and effort into practicing and studying chess. Students are expected to learn large amounts of material in a short amount of time. A significant number of students find the course overwhelming and may drop or fail. This course provides students with a deep understanding of the basics such as board setup, piece movement, as well as giving students the opportunity to learn more abstract and complex topics such as check, checkmate, and discovered attacks. By the end of this course, students should be able to play a chess game with complete awareness of all official chess rules. Students are expected to come to each class prepared with all materials requested by the instructor. Failure to bring required materials will not provide the student with the necessary materials to successfully understand and apply the concepts. In no particular order of importance, the following are materials that the student is required to bring to class: 1. An iPad / Tablet / or Laptop: Students will be completing assigned warmups on the laptop every single class. This should be brought to class each time. 2. Binder: Students will be provided a binder that they are required to keep track of. The teacher will provide a table of contents each class. This binder must be brought back EVERY class to add course work inside. 3. Pencil or Pen: Students should always have a pen or a pencil to write with during class. The instructor may not always have a pencil that the students should borrow, therefore, the students should have 2-3 pencils to complete course work with. 4. Chess Board: Students should bring a chess board every single class. This is necessary in order to expand their knowledge of chess and learn different combinations. Students will be using the chess board to practice material learned in class. This is class is for ages 10-18.
